ICT support Unit

ICT Support Unit of the college has been established with the objectives of building state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure and mainstreaming the ICT-based services in the teaching, learning, research, consultancy and administrative activities of the college. The unit also aims at ensuring sustainable use of the technology by providing hardware, software and network maintenance services. To accomplish the above stated tasks the unit has been structured into three major sub-units – Network & System Admin Sub-Unit and Computer Laboratory & Maintenance Sub-Unit Services. The two sub-units are organized at the college level providing support services to all schools and campuses.

The Network & System Admin Sub-Unit provides the following major network and system related services:

  • managing and configuring Web servers that provide access to various web-based applications including main website, digital Library System, and elearning,
  • content management,
  • managing and configuring DHCP server,
  • managing and configuring wirelesses in all campus,
  • managing, configuring and establishing new LAN connection,
  • maintaining  LAN connection failure,
  • managing gateway to the internet,
  • increasing the publicity of the website of the university using search engine optimization,
  • installation and setup, configuration, upgrading, administration, monitoring and maintenance of the database management systems (DBMSs),
  • establishing security and access control procedures,
  • performing ongoing administrative functions, and ensuring business continuity and disaster recovery plans are in place for the organization’s databases,
  • Identify basic ICT training needs of the staff of the University.

Computer Laboratory & Maintenance Sub-Unit provides different services to offices and computing labs including:

  • installing operating system as required,
  • configuring required  software as requested,
  • upgrading hardware’s as requested,
  • taking backup,
  • handling virus problems and recovery issues,
  • rearranging computer resources as requested,
  • basic maintenance of hardware,
  • basic maintenance of application and system software, and
  • Monitoring lab resource and assisting students and teaches at lab.
